The Northern Lights are a sight to behold when they appear in the North East.

Usually spotted on the coastline or in rural areas of the region, the Aurora Borealis lights up the sky with vibrant and colourful hues, in an almost surreal display.

We could never get sick of looking at photographs of them, so on Saturday we asked our readers to send in photos of the Northern Lights they had managed to capture. And you certainly didn't disappoint - with more than 100 comments of admiration for the natural beauty.

So we have shared the biggest and best displays for our readers in a round-up, which you can check out below!
