This is the moment a huge thunderbolt lit up the sky in Amble, swiftly followed by an almighty clap of thunder.

People in the area described the moment as "like a bomb going off" when shortly before 8pm a bolt of ligtning illuminated the sky which was almost immediately followed by loud bang.

Claire Courtney was in a caravan at Amble Links holiday park with her mum Andrea when the thunderbolt occurred. She said: "The ground rumbled and it shook the caravan which gave us a fright.

The pair were watching TV at the time and said the flash of the lightning lit up the room, despite having the curtains closed. They later noticed that the moment had been captured on their video doorbell, which showed a bolt of lightning in the distance and picked up the sound of the thunder.

The moment was also captured on video by Adam Handyside who had just left Amble Leisure Centre when he decided to take a video of the heavy rain from inside his car.
