If anyone can bring a smile to people's faces in a pandemic it has to be Geordie duo Ant and Dec.

The pair certainly will be doing their best on Tuesday to ease children's worries over the coronavirus.

In what will no doubt be a welcome break to the usual home schooling routine, youngsters will be able to tune into a virtual school assembly hosted by the TV favourites - and a fellow star, comedian David Walliams, will be making an appearance too.

This will be the second time that the I'm A Celebrity presenters have taken part in the NSPCC's Speak Out Stay Safe programme of assemblies which normally take place in primary schools - and Ant said they are "privileged" to be asked.

Their previous one, last June, attracted a whopping 100,000-plus views on Facebook and YouTube.

This time the assembly will cover coronavirus-related worries such as children not being able to see their family and friends; changes in their daily routines; experiences of new feelings and having to spend more time online.

Ant said: "After what has been an incredibly difficult start to the year for many young people, we feel privileged to once again be hosting the NSPCC's virtual assembly for children and their families."

Dec added: "We hope we can remind children that they don't have to just carry their worries with them - they can always speak to someone they trust if they're feeling sad, overwhelmed or unsafe."

David Walliams, whose books for children are huge sellers, will make a guest appearance during the Newcastle pair's Tuesday morning assembly.

The aim of the online assemblies is to help young people stay safe during the pandemic and Janet Hinton, NSPCC's head of school service, said: "The lockdown has turned the lives of children upside down and many are struggling to cope with the challenges it has posed.

"Although our trained Speak Out. Stay Safe staff can't currently go into schools, it is essential that every child knows who they can turn to if they need help and support."

The assembly can been on the NSPCC's Facebook page from 10am on February 23. See here.
