Barbour has donated jackets and shirts to the first ever Switch and Stitch: Eco Fast Fashion Festival.

Organised by Northumberland Wildlife Trust's Young People's Forum and featuring an eco fashion show, the event takes place at Northumbria University's Student Union on Saturday November 18. Billed as an alternative to fast fashion, the aim is for people to swap clothes and get tips on how to mend and upcycle their wardrobe favourites from fashion experts.

South Shields clothing brand Barbour has donated a selection of jackets' gilets, smart shirt and wellington boots to swap. Furthermore, a mixture of men's and women's clothes have been donated by Karen Colley, a community champion at a Tesco Extra store in Newcastle.

In addition to clothes shopping, there will be music from local Geordie band, The Timewasters, and an eco-fashion show with models from Newcastle University's Fashion Society, while visitors can find out more about fast fashion and its effects on the environment. A selection of classic jackets and boots, also donated by Barbour, will be raffled off at the end of the festival.

Liz Heard, eco mentor at Northumberland Wildlife Trust, said she was delighted at the clothing donations from Barbour, Tesco Extra and trust members. She said: "The funds raised will not only support our vital conservation work but will also raise awareness of the impact ‘fast fashion’ has on the environment.

"It’s great to see so many people standing up for the planet.”

Switch and Stitch: Eco Fast Fashion Festival takes place at Northumbria University Students' Union on Saturday November 18 from 11am - 4pm.
