Do you remember when you used to party like it's 1999? Well, that's the year we have chosen for our latest flashback to scenes of Newcastle back in the day.

Our Bigg Night Out series used to feature in the Chronicle every Friday between 1992 and 2012 when our photographers would be out and about in the city centre, often around the Bigg Market, taking images of groups of friends enjoying a night out on the town. And now we regularly dig through those old archives to help people remember some good old days.

Our latest pick of photos show lads and lasses having a great time around Newcastle in 1999 which no doubt will spark some happy memories for those of the right age. Those who do recall the year may also remember it was one that saw the release of some hugely successful films, such as Notting Hill, American Beauty, The Sixth Sense, American Pie and Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace.

Music-wise, Britney Spears' Baby One More Time was the highest-selling single of the year and Cher made a number one comeback in the charts with Believe. Sport lovers might recall that Pete Sampras beat Goran Ivanisevic to win Wimbledon that year, while Steffi Graf lost to Lindsay Davenport.

In 1999 the smoking ban did not exist - in fact revellers could still enjoy a cigarette inside pubs and clubs right up until summer 2007. So what song might those in our 10 Bigg Night Out photographs below have been listening to at this very time of year?

Robbie Williams' She's The One made number one on November 20 and was proving the singalong hit at the time.
