Eurythmics star Dave Stewart will be back on home turf this week with a unique show that promises to be a huge treat for fans.

The Sunderland-born musician, songwriter and record producer is slotting a city date into his European tour which for the first time in more than 20 years will see him play a full-length show of Eurythmics hits. This Friday - between tour dates in Switzerland and Paris - he will be back at Sunderland Empire with his celebration of 40 years of the band's favourite tracks.

The big night at the venue - where Stewart has previously chosen to host his special birthday shows - promises to be a must for fans. And there are currently a few tickets still available.

Award-winner Stewart, who along with Eurythmics co-star Annie Lennox is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, now lives overseas, between Nashville and the Caribbean, but is a regular visitor to his home city. He also mentors local talent and was here in September for the funeral of 21-year-old rising star Faye Fantarrow, who he was helping to make her name as a singer-songwriter before her shock diagnosis and death from an aggressive brain tumour.

He maintains close ties with the region and Friday's show here - plus one at London Palladium on November 17 - are the only UK stop-offs in his European tour which includes dates in Brussels, Dusseldorf, Vienna, Frankfurt, Berlin and Utrecht in the Netherlands.

Stewart will be joined on stage by a live all-female band who will accompany him on what's described as an "electrifying musical journey" through the Eurythmics musical partnership's most iconic hits. And it comes with the full blessing of Annie Lennox, who no longer tours.
