Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has made a pledge to Toon supremo Yasir Al-Rumayyan that he will give everything to deliver his request to make the Magpies 'number one'.

The United chairman made his ambitions crystal clear earlier this summer in a club interview and Howe and his coaching team are preparing the team for another new challenge in the 2023/24 campaign.

The Newcastle head coach and his players were in the city centre last night as they watched the premiere of Prime Video's "We are Newcastle United" documentary series which airs on August 11.

Howe has already spoken about given it his all in "four competitions" this season but urged fans to focus on backing the team for the first four Premier League fixtures. That is the message from the boss ahead of September's Champions League match.

But on the wider vision at St James' Park, Howe said: "The pressure I feel is from myself. Even if Yasir could sit me down and have a talk I would welcome that and if he wanted to give me direct objectives, no problem, that wouldn’t create a fear in me. The fear comes from myself.

"I know the expectations of the football club. I know his thoughts and aims and ambitions and I want to hit those targets for him. Ultimately I have to look at myself. I can only do what I can do.

"That is what I mark myself against: what I am giving. If I am giving my all that is all I can do."

Howe, speaking in a big interview during Newcastle's time in New Jersey, is eager to get the transfer window out of the way so he can concentrate on his main passion - being on the coaching field with his squad.

Howe said: "I try to enjoy it. I love coaching. I love being on the training pitch. I really do. If I have delivered a good training session, that was a good day.

"I think, we have got better today. That is the most enjoyable part of the job. The game days are intense and a reflection of your work. You enjoy the win for a small period of time then it is on to the next one. You are caught in that cycle all the time.

"You don’t have a chance to sit back and say haven’t I done a great job, because there is always another day, always tomorrow and if you sit and relax even for a second, whatever part of the season you are in you are going to fall behind."
