Rangers legend Ally McCoist has heaped praise on young Newcastle United midfielder Lewis Miley following his stellar display against PSG in the Champions League.

The young academy graduate made his full Champions League debut at the Parc Des Princes after coming off the bench against Dortmund last time out. Miley was among the standout performers against the French team of superstars, with another impressive display on the back of a solid game against Chelsea at the weekend.

At just 17-years-old, Miley doesn't look out of place in Eddie Howe's side and has a bright future ahead of him. His run in the build-up to Newcastle's goal at PSG dragged defenders away, while also putting in a number of impressive blocks at the other end to deny the French champions.

"I thought he was excellent," McCoist told TNT Sports. "I just thought the whole team was brilliant from start to finish but with him, he takes up fantastic positions as well.

"He’s extremely intelligent for such a young player, and you think players usually get more intelligent with the more experience they get but for a young lad of 17 years of age, his football knowledge is well ahead of his years!"

The Toon are back in Champions League action when they take on AC Milan at St James' Park on Wednesday, December 13.
