Greggs Benedict anyone? That’s just one of the savoury specials on offer at an eatery set to become a festive sensation, thanks to a genius partnership orchestrated by two of the North East’s biggest businesses.

Greggs and Fenwick have come together to launch Bistro Greggs, a one-of-a-kind pop up at Fenwick's Newcastle store which is set to be the city’s hottest new restaurant opening this Christmas. Bistro Greggs will be an all-day dining destination, serving breakfast, brunch and lunch dishes inside a Parisian-inspired space on the department store’s first floor.

The two firms have been busy transforming the space into the the bistro, where guests will enter through a pergola designed with Greggs’ lattice pastry pattern. Inside, diners will be offered a fine dining experience, with dishes served under silver cloches by waiters in Bistro Greggs aprons and traditional white shirts and ties.

The French-style restaurant will serve iterations of Greggs’ favourite menu items, paired with Fenwick Food Hall wines and a signature cocktail created by award winning bar, Mother Mercy at Fenwick Newcastle – The Pink Jammie Fizz inspired by Greggs’ pink jammie doughnut.

The eatery marks the first time the two brands – both established in Newcastle with a combined heritage of 225 years – have teamed up. But it’s not the first time that the much-loved North East brands have been pictured together at Christmas.

Fenwick has brought the city’s community together for more than 50 years with its famed Christmas window at the Northumberland Street store – and back in 2018, Greggs cheekily reflected their logo from its neighbouring shop onto the Fenwick window, creating a huge reaction and buzz for both brands across social media.

The menu has been created by Fenwick executive head chef, Mark Reid, in collaboration with Greggs, with the lunch menu including duck-fat roasties, smoked pancetta, chestnuts and sprouts, alongside the Greggs steak bake which is accompanied by truffled dauphinoise potatoes, green beans and almonds.

Other highlights for breakfast and brunch include the Greggs Benedict – a version of a Greggs sausage, bean and cheese melt, with smoked ham, poached Cacklebean eggs and a Hollandaise sauce. A Full English nods to Greggs’ best-selling sausage roll alongside bacon, mushroom, tomato, baked beans and a choice of eggs and it also comes as a vegetarian and vegan option.

Bistro Greggs will also serve High Tea for two, where guests can enjoy a three-tier sharing brunch with peach melba, yum yum bites paired with chocolate sauce and banana, alongside a Greggs croissant, pain au chocolat, plus a sausage roll and sausage, bean and cheese melt. The eatery opens to diners on Friday, December 1 and runs to New Year’s Eve, with tables available to book in advance as well as tables set aside for walk-ins.

Leo Fenwick, strategic partnerships director at Fenwick said: “Fenwick and Greggs are two brands at the heart of the local community with a commitment to doing good and we are thrilled to be partnering with a much-loved brand, bringing a unique and delicious twist to the everyday Greggs experience at Fenwick.”

Hannah Squirrell, customer director at Greggs said: “The launch of Bistro Greggs marks a watershed moment as we take our first step with Fenwick into classic French-inspired fine dining. Showcasing popular favourites across our menu, we’ve created an accessible menu featuring eloquent dishes with a modern twist, elevated through Fenwick’s gastronomic excellence and expertise.”

Bistro Greggs will be open daily Monday to Sunday.
