Lloyds Banking Group has announced plans to close 45 more branches across the UK - including a bank in the North East.

The planned closures include 19 Lloyds, 22 Halifax and four Bank of Scotland sites. A Lloyds bank in North Tyneside is on the list and due to close late next year.

The latest announcement means at least 276 branches will be shut across Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland this year and next. More banks are shutting branches as people choose to do their banking online. But charities and organisations have raised fears that too many closures risks leaving the elderly and vulnerable without access to services.

If you do need to visit a bank in person, Halifax customers are advised to check if a “community banker” - which use community venues once a bank has shut - is visiting your area. However, these don’t offer cash or counter services - instead, you’ll need to visit a Post Office branch if you need to pay in cash and cheques, make withdrawals and check your balance, reports The Mirror.

Lloyds and Bank of Scotland customers should check if they have a “mobile branch” service available near them - these are normally set up on specific dates and times each month. Customers can also use the Post Office for cash and counter services.
