A man was found dead within the grounds of a cemetery on Saturday morning after emergency services received a report of concern for a person's welfare.

Emergency services were called to Gateshead East Cemetery shortly after 7.30am on Saturday and found a man in his 50s who was sadly confirmed as deceased. There is not believed to have been any third-party involvement and his death is not believed to be suspicious.

The man's next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers.


A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At around 7.35am yesterday (Saturday) police received a report of concern for the welfare of a person within Gateshead East Cemetery on Milvain Street in Gateshead.

"Emergency services attended the scene and found a man in his 50s who was sadly confirmed as deceased. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers.

"Police do not believe the death to be suspicious or that there was any third-party involvement. A report will be made for the coroner."
