With the dark nights drawing in and the country hit by seemingly endless rain and wind, it's no surprise that many of us will be consoling ourselves with warming thoughts of what we have to look forward to.

The idea of sunshine seems a long way off but that doesn't stop us thinking about next year's holiday abroad or planning ahead for a sunshine treat. Summer is festival season and music lovers have already been treated this week to big name announcements and festival news including 2024 plans and headliners for the return to Newcastle of both Lost Minds Festival and In The Park.

Now the country's biggie - Glastonbury - has also revealed details of next year's event, and its fans - many Geordies among them - will be delighted to know that tickets for it will be going on sale soon. However, anyone who has been meticulously planning their ticket-buying process should be aware that the sale dates have been pushed back.

This sale date was changed on Thursday, November 2, the same day that they were slated to go on sale at 6pm. Organisers confirmed that tickets with coach travel will now go on sale on November 16, while general admission tickets will follow on November 19.

The change was made due to "serious concern" that changes to the registration process earlier this year had left some users mistakenly believing that they had successfully registered to purchase tickets, when in fact this was not the case. Registrations will now re-open between November 6 and November 13 to give more people the chance to register.

The iconic festival at Somerset's Worthy Farm is a huge celebration of music and a highlight of the year for those who manage to bag one of its 200,000 tickets which are always in such high demand. With plans for it already announced, here is a guide, from The Mirror, of everything fans need to know for Glastonbury 2024.

What are the Glastonbury dates?

The whopping music festival is set to get under way at Worthy Farm in Somerset on Wednesday, June 26 and run until Sunday, June 30. Most of the music will take place on June 28, 29 and 30. For those who miss out on tickets, there will be live coverage on TV.

How do I get tickets?

The first round of tickets are now due to go on sale at 6pm on Thursday, November 16, when festival-goers will be able to buy both their festival tickets plus coach travel. General admission tickets will then go on sale at 9am on Sunday, November 19.

All tickets are sold exclusively at glastonbury.seetickets.com and anyone wishing to head to Worthy Farm must be registered. In a bid to tackle ticket touting, all those who attend must be registered in advance of the ticket sale.

Registration will re-open at midday on Monday, November 6, and will close at 5pm on Monday, November 13, following concerns that the new process had impacted registrations in the previous window. The official Glastonbury advice is to submit any registrations at least a week before it closes.

It is noted that registration does not guarantee tickets. Children aged 12 and under are admitted free of charge and do not need a ticket - nor do they need to register. Even if you are already registered, the festival encourages you to check the details of your existing registration well ahead of the ticket sales, and this can be done here.

If you are unsuccessful in securing a ticket in November, not all is lost. There will be another chance next year as Glastonbury releases re-sale tickets in the spring which is when any returned tickets go back on sale.

Ticket prices

For 2024, a ticket to Glastonbury will cost £355 plus a £5 booking fee. This is an increase of £20 from the 2023 event, which was £335 plus booking fee. A £75 deposit (plus coach fare if booking a Ticket + Coach travel option) is payable when booking in November, with the balance then due in the first week of April 2024.

Coach pricing depends upon which city you will be travelling from and this will be added to your overall ticket cost.

UK tickets can now be purchased with a UK Debit Card or Visa or Mastercard Credit Cards. International tickets can be bought only by Visa Credit Card or Mastercard Credit Card.

On ticket sale day, a limited number of people will be allowed access to the booking site at any one time. There will be a holding page which will automatically refresh to look for space on the booking page every 20 seconds.

Glastonbury fans are warned that if the site has a large amount of traffic, they may see a reduced version of the See Tickets booking site - it does not mean it has crashed.

When on the booking site, customers will be asked to enter the registration number and registered postcode for the lead booker and up to for other people for whom they are attempting to book tickets. They will not be allowed to amend details afterwards.

If choosing the Ticket + Coach travel option, you must select your departure town. Travel on the coach you select is mandatory in order to receive your festival ticket.

Line-up

While there has not yet been any official announcement of the line-up, there already have been plenty of rumours. Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis hinted that the line-up for the five-day event in June is still "a little up in the air" and she hopes to release it in the new year.

However, she revealed that she hopes there will be two female headliners, says The Mirror. She said the representatives for a "really big American artist" had recently reached out about the event.

Last month it was reported that Madonna was in advanced talks to take to the stage at Glastonbury. Emily has shared her love for Madonna on Instagram and recently watched the star perform at London's O2 Arena.

Fans were left convinced that this hint is confirmation that Madonna will be headlining. It also has been reported that Bruce Springsteen - who announced a 2024 Sunderland date this week - could be taking to the Pyramid Stage next summer.

Dua Lipa, Coldplay and Pink are also favoured highly by bookmakers. And fans also hope that Oasis, or at least Liam Gallagher, will make an appearance.

Liam is launching his Definitely Maybe tour and appears to have a gap in his schedule over the Glastonbury weekend. Fans have come to expect big names, with Elton John, Arctic Monkeys and Guns N' Roses among those who topped the festival bill this year.

Emily added: “This year, we did have a female headliner and she unfortunately had to pull out - it changes all the time. But next year it's looking like we’ve got two female headliners, so fingers crossed.”
