Jamie Lynn Spears has quit I'm A Celebrity and left the jungle after breaking down in tears over missing her family during last night's episode, ITV has confirmed.

The younger sister of Britney Spears was one of the original campmates when the show returned for a new series on Sunday night, but was left struggling within days of arriving in camp. Jamie Lynn, 32, became emotional several times as she confided to her co-stars that she missed home and her two young children back in the US.

A spokesperson for I'm A Celeb tweeted: "Jamie Lynn Spears has left I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! on medical grounds. She's been a fantastic campmate who has triumphed at trials and bonded well with her fellow celebrities."

In Tuesday's episode of I'm A Celebrity, Jamie Lynn was voted to take on the next Bushtucker Trial. Earlier in the episode, she confessed to campmates Sam Thompson and former EastEnders actress Danielle Harold about feeling emotionally weak.

Danielle tried to encourage her by saying: "You're so strong. This is tough babe, tough. So tough. It's not easy." Jamie Lynn was visibly upset, responding to Danielle's words with: "Why am I crying so much? Josie [Gibson] has a baby at home..."

Sam, a former Made In Chelsea star, tried to comfort her, saying: "It's important to remember you've come from a whole different continent, you don't know anyone here, it's hard. It's real hard."

Danielle chimed in: "Look at the s*** you've been through in your life, right? This, a little bit of rain in the jungle, nothing." Jamie Lynn retorted: "But at least all that s*** I could go home to my babies every night, you know?

"That's it, that's all I need in life. It feels a little bit overwhelming. They're not even close. I've got to just do it. I don't know why I'm being such a baby," she added.

Jamie Lynn is not the first star to have left the jungle this series on medical grounds, with campmate Grace Dent also quitting the series earlier this week. An ITV spokesperson said of the 50-year-old food critic's departure at the time: "Unfortunately Grace Dent has left the show on medical grounds. She has been a great campmate and will be missed by her fellow celebrities and viewers alike."

The news came after Grace sparked major concerns from viewers over her on-screen appearance, in which she was caught saying she "just wanted to go home" - some of whom urged bosses at ITV to step in and check on her wellbeing. Flocking to social media as last night's credits rolled, one person wrote: "Grace Dent doesn't seem right at all," while a second, went on: "Is Grace Dent OK? She looks ill, I think. I hope they check on her."
