Sunderland boxer Josh Kelly has been dealt a blow in his preparations for his fight against unbeaten Argentinian Gabriel Corzo. The Black Cats fan picked up an injury, which has not been disclosed, in training camp this week.

It means the bout that was scheduled to take place on June 24 at the Vertu Motors Arena in Newcastle, will now take place on July 15. Kelly is ranked number two in the WBO in the super welterweight division and is hoping a win over Corzo will set up a world title fight next year.

The former British Olympian suffered defeat to David Avanesyan in the only loss on his professional record back in February 2021, but has since bounced back with three wins on the trot after moving up a weight division. The most recent of those against North-East rival Troy Williamson for the British light-middleweight title.

Prior to that, Kelly won the vacant WBO International super welterweight title against Lucas Bastida, which he'll defend against Corzo next month.

Kalle Sauerland, Global Head of Boxing at Wasserman Boxing, said: "Josh has been firing on all cylinders in the gym of late, and was itching to get back in the ring in front of his brilliant fans. However, he suffered an injury in training which means we have to push his return back three weeks. But Josh will be ready for July 15, where he will deliver a statement performance to the rest of the division, live on DAZN."

For any ticket holder unable to make the new date of July 15, and who requires a full refund, please get in touch with your point of contact within the next seven days. The fight will be shown live and exclusive around the world on DAZN.
