Madness have announced that they will be heading to Newcastle Racecourse next summer for a special live gig - with tickets going on sale this week.

The iconic band have promised a "superb night of entertainment" treating the crowd to all their greatest hits after a day of racing, including Baggy Trousers, One Step Beyond, My Girl, Our House and It Must Be Love. The performance on June 28, 2024 will form part of celebrations for Northumberland Plate Festival, otherwise known as Plate Day, which sees hundreds of horse racing enthusiasts descend on the Gosforth course in their finery for the historic occasion.

Following the release of their 13th studio album earlier this month, Theatre of the Absurd Presents C'est la Vie, Madness are set to embark on a UK tour throughout November and December before heading on their summer tour from June until August next year. Newcastle is their only North East date, with other stops including Edinburgh Castle and Scarborough Open Air Theatre.

Executive director of Newcastle Racecourse Paul Elliot said: "We're absolutely delighted to welcome Madness to Newcastle Racecourse on Friday June 28, where they'll be performing as part of the three-day historic Northumberland Plate Festival. They are one of the country's most popular artists.

"We're sure that they will blow our customers away with a live performance. We are anticipating a sell-out crowd, so would encourage our customers to book sooner, rather than later," Paul advised.

Pre-sale tickets will be available for O2 customers from Wednesday, November 29 at 10am, before the general ticket sale opens on Friday, December 1 at 10am. Tickets will be available to buy on Ticketmaster, with adult grandstand tickets priced at £40 or £60 for a 'premier' ticket plus a booking fee.

Children's tickets will be priced at £25; under fives go free, but all children must be accompanied by an adult. Approximate times suggest that gates will open at 3pm on the day, with the first race taking place at around 4.55pm and the last race at 8.20pm.

Before their Newcastle Racecourse gig, Madness are paying a visit to the city this year with a gig at the Utilita Arena on Saturday, December 2. At the time of writing, tickets are still available for the show via Ticketmaster with prices starting from £39.50 per ticket.
