A man was left with a serious head injury after he was punched to the ground in an early morning city attack.

The victim was targeted on Newcastle's Grainger Street at around 1am on Wednesday, October 25. Police say it was reported that he was approached by another man from behind who verbally abused him before punching him in the side of the head.

He fell to the ground and lost consciousness. The victim was taken to hospital but has since been discharged.

  • Now, Northumbria Police has released an image of a man officers investigating the incident would like to trace.

    A spokesman for the force said: "Police have today released an image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.

    "He was in the area at the time the assault is reported to have taken place and officers believe he may be able to assist them with their enquiries."

    The man, or anyone who knows him, is asked to call Northumbria Police on 101 quoting 135848E/23.
