Newcastle United's Under-19s left it late to record their first ever win in the UEFA Youth League, pulling off a shock 2-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain at the State Georges-Lefèvre on Tuesday afternoon.

Ben Dawson's side lost their first three games in the competition in recent months as they were given a rude awakening to life in Europe. However, after picking up a hard-fought point over Borussia Dortmund's youngsters earlier this month, Newcastle now have their first win thanks to Johnny Emerson's late winner.

17-year-old Scott Bailey opened the scoring for the Magpies early in the contest before PSG skipper Senny Mayulu was sent off shortly after the interval. The hosts equalised later on through Mahamadou Sangare but there was another twist on the way.

With 88 minutes on the clock, Emerson found the net to hand the away side their first ever win in the competition. Pandemonium ensued as the youngster's team-mates flocked to him at the corner flag to celebrate.

Sporting director Dan Ashworth has been attending some of the European youth fixtures, while Kylian Mbappe's father, Wilfried, was in attendance in Paris on Tuesday.

The historic win will do wonders for the confidence of Dawson's players as the under-19s finally get a grasp of the competition. Unfortunately, despite four points from the last two outings, Newcastle cannot qualify from their group.

Milan top Group F with 12 points, Dortmund are second with seven, while PSG have six and the Magpies sit on four points. Dawson's men will welcome Milan's young stars to Tyneside for the final group game in December.
