After a 20 year absence, most of which was spent under the fruitless reign of Mike Ashley, Newcastle United's return to the top table of European football is something to be celebrated.

It's been a hard knock for Magpies fans since their last appearance in the UEFA Champions League two decades ago, with two relegations and a series of uninspiring seasons in the bottom half of the Premier League providing little for supporters to shout about. A season in the Europa League under Alan Pardew was the exception rather than the rule, with the Black and White army making it to the quarter finals the last time they enjoyed a European adventure.

Despite being drawn in a so-called 'group of death', there's no reason to think Newcastle can't reach a similar stage of the competition this time around. Few clubs were able to get the better of United last season, and it's proven to be just as difficult for sides visiting St James' Park this autumn - as PSG found out the hard way.

Whether or not Eddie Howe's men progress from the group stages, Newcastle fans are sure to have fun along the way. Trips to Milan, Paris and Dortmund will provide some brilliant memories for those fans lucky enough to travel.

We want to wish the Magpies good luck as they tackle some of the giants of European football, and now you can send a message with our cheer map below:
