Newcastle United were dealt a dagger to the heart in Paris after almost holding on for a dramatic and famous Champions League win.

The Magpies had to weather an early storm as Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele threatened Nick Pope's goal but the Toon stopper made fine saves. But PSG's ultras were stunned into silence on 24 minutes when Gianluigi Donnarumma fumbled Miguel Almiron's shot and Alexander Isak made no mistake.

United were encamped in the PSG half for the majority of the second half and PSG needed a late and controversial penalty award to earn a point as Kylian Mbappe fired home.

Nick Pope 9

An ice-cold save to deny Mbappe from close range. Got a big important hand on Dembele's curler too.

Slick and tidy as usual.

Jamaal Lascelles 8

Has been on top of everything thrown at him so far. Some vital clearances from the get go.

Fabian Schar 7

Has impressed in the heart of defence.

Tino Livarmento 8

Has the difficult task of keeping Dembele quiet. Has done so very well and his testing run forward opened PSG up for the goal.

Lewis Miley 8

His intelligence on the ball for a 17-year-old is frightening. But he does exactly what is asked of him.

Bruno Guimaraes 8

Running the show in the middle.

Joelinton 7

A thorn in the side of PSG. But needs to be careful after picking up yellow card.

Miguel Almiron 7

Has had some good moments and it was his shot that forced Gianluigi Donnarumma into an error for opener.

Anthony Gordon 8

Another workaholic display.

Alexander Isak 8

Sent one over but made no mistake with gift-wrapped opener.
