The owner of one of Newcastle's top-rated restaurants has opened a stylish sister venue on the city's Quayside.

Salparo is a new Greek restaurant on The Side serving up modern dishes inspired by the island of Paros. Inside there is room to seat up to 40 diners who can choose from a range of seafood, meat and vegetarian sharing plates starting at £10.

The stylish eatery is the second venture for owner Aldo Hasani, who is behind the city's popular Chillingham Road restaurant, 'Paros,' which earned itself a TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice award in 2022.

The 28-year-old moved to Newcastle from the Greek island to study at Northumbria University in 2014 and took the plunge to launch his first restaurant during the pandemic.

Now Aldo is branching out into the city centre with his new restaurant Salparo, which he hopes will give diners the chance to try a range of Greek dishes they may never have had before.

Greek chef Isaak Tsopouridis will head up the kitchen and menu highlights include grilled octopus with Greek fava, herbs, and chef's dressing, as well as deep-fried dough balls filled with feta and sundried tomato sauce.

A range of Greek wines, beers, spirits, and cocktails will also be on offer that can be expertly paired with each meal.

"We don't have starters or mains, it is just sharing plates," Aldo said.

"We have three categories, vegetarian, meat, and seafood, and have four or five different choices from each category. The dishes will all be placed in the middle of the table for people to share."

Salparo will be open Tuesday to Thursday from 12pm to 9.30pm, Friday and Saturday from 12pm to 10pm and Sunday from 12pm to 5pm.
