These lads and lasses were snapped having a fun time around the bustling pubs and clubs of Newcastle city centre back in 2004.

The photos were originally taken for our Bigg Night Out feature which ran in the Chronicle every Friday between 1999 and 2013. It was intended as a bit of fun - then and now. We trust the last 19 years have been good to all the folk in our 10 pictures. But what do we remember of 2004?

In our region, the stunning Sage music centre opened on Gateshead Quays; Tyneside's first multiplex cinema, Warner Bros at Manors, Newcastle, showed its last film after just 15 years in business; and Sir Bobby Robson's Newcastle United team finished fifth in the Premier League and qualified for Europe.

In the wider world, it was a year which saw fox hunting banned in the UK; the Statue of Liberty in New York reopened after the 9/11 terror attacks three years earlier; and the Euro 2004 football championships took place in Portugal.

Check out our 10 Bigg Night Out photographs. Maybe you'll even spot someone you recognise.
