Rick Astley is to headline Mouth of the Tyne Festival in 2024 - five years after his last sell-out show there.

The pop legend is the first headline artist to be announced for the festival, which is held each year at Tynemouth Priory and Castle in Tynemouth, North Tyneside. Thousands of fans previously turned out to see the 57-year-old sing when he

previously headlined the event

, which is organised by North Tyneside Council, back in July 2019.

He will perform on Friday, July 12 next year and tickets will go on sale on Friday (December 1) at 9am from See Tickets and Ticketmaster. Special guests on the night will be Lightning Seeds, who celebrate their 35th anniversary in 2024. They will play selected classics ahead of a full nationwide tour of their own later in the year.

Rick is known for multiple hits including 'Together Forever' and his 25-country chart-topper 'Never Gonna Give You Up', which were released in the 1980s. Earlier this year, he wowed the audience when he performed at Glastonbury. He opened the Pyramid Stage on the Saturday and collaborated with artists including Foo Fighters and Blossoms.

Last month, Rick's new album 'Are We There Yet?', was released. It is the third in a row which he has written, recorded, played and produced himself. The Mouth of The Tyne Festival will be Rick's second performance in the North East next year. He has already announced a UK tour and will perform at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle on February 23.
