There are a number of road closures in place across the North East this week, with drivers advised to plan their journeys accordingly.

Some roads are fully closed while others have lane closures in place from Monday, November 27 until Sunday, December 3. Temporary traffic measures or diversion routes are also being enforced on roads throughout the region, meaning motorists may need to allow extra time for their commutes.

Newcastle

• Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on A191 Benton Park Road at A189 Killingworth Road (South Gosforth roundabout). Until May 2024.

• Traffic taking turns due to gas main work on B1311 Elswick Road at York Street. Until November 29.

• Temporary traffic lights due to gas main work on B1600 Stoddart Street between Shieldfield Lane and Union Street. Until December 28.

• Heaton Park View in both directions closed due to roadworks from Warwick Street to Heaton Road. Until September 2024.

• Pilgrim Street southbound closed due to long-term roadworks between Blackett Street and A167 (Swan House Roundabout). Until March 2025.

Gateshead

• Narrow lanes and speed restriction of 50mph due to major widening works on A1 Western Bypass in both directions from junction 67 Kingsway South (Coalhouse Roundabout) to A1(M) junction 65 / A194M Birtley. Expect delays. Work to create an extra lane in each direction. Until May 2025.

• Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on A695 in both directions at Stargate Lane (Stargate roundabout ). Expect delays. Until December 8.

Northumberland

• Bridge Street closed due to roadworks from B1329 to B1327 Union Street. Until November 2024.

• Hencotes Westbound closed due to roadworks from B6306 Eastgate to Temperly Place. Until March 2024.

• B6344 in both directions closed due to roadworks between the A697 (Longframlington) and Longframlington turn-off (Pauperhaugh). Until March 2024.

• Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on B6343 near Mitford. Until 5pm on November 30.

• Temporary traffic lights due to gas main work on B6395 Stonyflat Bank at Redwell Road. Until November 30.

• Green Lane in both directions closed due to roadworks between Chillingham Crescent and A196 North Seaton Road. Until 6am on December 1.

• Speed restriction of 40mph due to roadworks on A19 at A189 (Moor Farm Roundabout). Expect delays. Until January 30 2024.

North Tyneside

• Temporary traffic lights due to gas main work on B1516 Bede Burn Road at Field Terrace. Until November 30.

• Bell Street in both directions closed due to roadworks from Liddell Street to Union Quay. Until June 2024.

• Bromley Avenue in both directions closed due to roadworks between Wilson Court and Wembley Avenue. Until December 5.

• Temporary traffic lights due to long-term roadworks on Liddell Street near Clive Street. Until May 2024.

• Tyne Street closed due to roadworks from Union Street to Linskill Street. Until May 2024.

South Tyneside

• Calf Close Lane in both directions closed due to roadworks from Calf Close Walk to A194 Leam Lane (Prince of Wales roundabout). Until 5pm on November 29.

• Grosvenor Road in both directions closed due to roadworks from Kelvin Grove to Northfield Road. Until 5pm on November 28.

• Laygate Street closed due to roadworks from Commercial Road to West Holborn . Until March 2024.

Sunderland

• Athenaeum Street one way street closed due to long-term roadworks from Fawcett Street to Frederick Street. Until December 22.

County Durham

• Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on A182 between A19 (Murton Interchange) and Admiralty Way Roundabout. Until December 8.

• Grants Crescent in both directions closed due to telecoms work from Princess Road to Corcyra Street. Until 5pm on November 28.

• Temporary traffic lights due to gas main work on Iveston Lane at Back Lane. Until November 28.

• Margaret Street in both directions closed due to roadworks at Maglona Street. Until 5pm on November 27.

• Wallnook Lane in both directions closed due to roadworks between Front Terrace and Firs Terrace. Until December 2024.
