Annoyed Strictly Come Dancing fans have hit out at show bosses for their 'lazy' song choices for the upcoming Musicals themed quarter final and accusing them of 'recycling' old routines instead of coming up with fresh ideas.

Just like Movie Week earlier on this series and the show's annual trip to Blackpool,. the Musicals themed show is always a highlight of the Strictly calendar and has given us some truly top tier routines over the year. Last year alone gave us Hamza and Jowita's stunning samba to He Lives in You from The Lion King and Helen Skelton's absolutely iconic Couple's Choice to Mein Herr from Cabaret, which viewers subbed the 'ultimate revenge' dance following the breakdown of the TV presenter's marriage months earlier.

Last year also gave us numbers themed around the likes of Miss Saigon, and An American In Paris and the biggest gripe fans have got with the Strictly Musicals Week songs and dances this time round is that they feature songs from shows already 'done to death.' The list was released onto Strictly's social media channels on Tuesday afternoon and revealed that bookies favourites Ellie and Vito will be doing a Quickstep to Belle from Beauty and the Beast, the same musical Kelvin Fletcher and Oti Mabuse took inspiration from for their American Smooth three years ago.

Other numbers lined up include Nigel and Katya doing a Charleston to Step in Time from Mary Poppins, Bobby and Dianne doing a Dirty Dancing themed salsa, Annabel and Johannes dancing a Foxtrot to For Good from Wicked and finally, Layton and Nikita's Paso Doble to Backstage Romance from Moulin Rouge.

While some of the choices have gone down well since they were confirmed, some fans were quick to criticise, with one responding to the Strictly Instagram post to blast: "Dirty dancing again, even the same song. Is it even a musical? So many amazing musical out there are they just recycle the same ones. Shame they don't expand the choices." Equally unimpressed at certain routines lined up for Saturday's quarter final, a second reacted: "Love that they’ve used moulin rouge, but gutted it’s the same old same old for the rest of them. Musicals week is always so late in the game we hardly get any as it is, come on strictly, get some newer stuff!"

The same fan added: "Bored of the same type of musicals every single time! There’s soooo many to choose from!!!"
