On-loan Sunderland defender Joe Anderson started Shrewbury Town's heavy 4-0 defeat at Blackpool, with Shrews boss Matt Taylor branding his side's performance 'not acceptable'. Anderson played for an hour before he was substituted as Taylor changed his approach, with the scoreline 2-0 at that stage.

Jordan Rhodes put Blackpool in front from the penalty spot on 19 minutes at Bloomfield Road, converting after former Sunderland man Tom Flanagan had fouled Karamoko Dembele. Jake Beesley added the second just after the half-hour, with substitute Kyle Joseph making it 3-0 with 15 minutes remaining, before Beesley scored his second and the Seasiders' fourth eight minutes from time.

Defeat left Shrewsbury 16th in League One, and their next game sees them take on Port Vale at the New Meadow on Saturday. Anderson played the full 90 minutes last Tuesday as the Shrews beat Walsall 3-2 at the New Meadow in the EFL Trophy, although the Southern Section Group A game was a dead rubber with neither side able to progress to the knockout stage.

In the National League, Sunderland's Zak Johnson played 90 minutes to help Hartlepool United end their four-game winless streak with a 3-1 victory at York City. Jake Hastie put Pools ahead at the York Community Stadium after six minutes, with Tom Crawford making it 2-0 on the quarter-hour and Nicky Featherstone adding the third just five minutes into the second half.

Tyler Cordner pulled a goal back for the Minstermen in injury time. The win leaves Hartlepool 12th in the table, and their next game sees them take on Kidderminster at Aggborough Stadium tomorrow.

Sunderland goalkeeper Alex Bass was an unused substitute as AFC Wimbledon boss Jamie Johnson rang the changes for the Dons' final EFL Trophy Southern Section Group C game against Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park. Both sides had already qualified for the knockout stage, but either could have finished top of the group.

Wimbledon had a golden chance to take the lead in the first half after Wycombe conceded a penalty for handball, but Franco Ravizzoli saved Josh Davison's spot-kick. And in the end it was the Chairboys who finished top of the heap, with Kieran Sadlier scoring the only goal of the game six minutes from time.

The Dons' next game sees them return to League Two action on Saturday when Notts County visit Plough Lane.
