Person taken to hospital following one-vehicle collision on Tyne Bridge

One person has been taken to hospital following a collision on the Tyne Bridge this morning.

Shortly after 8am this morning emergency services were called to reports of a one-vehicle collision on the A167 Tyne Bridge heading southbound.

One lane was closed while the vehicle, which was found facing the wrong direction, was moved onto the footpath.

Tyne and Wear Metro has been reporting delays of up to 30 minutes on services from Regent Centre towards Airport in both directions. They said this is due to a train being withdrawn from service.

A statement from the North East Ambulance Service

A NEAS spokesperson said:

"We were called to a road traffic incident on the Tyne Bridge just after 8am this morning. We dispatched a double crewed ambulance and one patient was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary."
