Traffic easing on A19

Traffic is now easing following the collision on the A19 Northbound near Sunderland.

The road appears to have reopened.

Delays and average speed 10mph

According to AA, there are delays of seven minutes on the A19 Northbound.

They say delays are easing between B1404 Seaton Lane (Seaton Interchange) and A690 Durham Road (Herrington Interchange).

The average speed is reportedly 10 mph.

A19 Northbound closed at Sunderland

The A19 Northbound is closed at Sunderland.

This is reportedly due to an accident at A690 Durham Road (Herrington Interchange).

There is a diversion via the exit and entry slip roads.

Central Motorway is busy but moving

North East Live Traffic have shared the below footage of the A167(M) Central Motorway.

They have reported that the journey time between the Tyne Bridge and Cowgate is 14 minutes.

They say the journey time between Cowgate and the Tyne Bridge is 13 minutes.

Slow traffic at the Tyne Tunnel

There is slow traffic on the A19 at the Tyne Tunnel in Howdon in North Tyneside.

This is due to an earlier broken down vehicle on A19 Tyne Tunnel Southbound from A193 Tynemouth Road (Howdon Roundabout, Wallsend) to A185 Straker Street (Jarrow). Traffic was held for around thrity five minutes.

Man taken to QE Hospital after Metro 'medical incident'

The North East Ambulance Service confirmed that the man who had a "medical incident" at Pelaw Station has been taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

An NEAS spokesperson said:

"We received a call at 3.28pm this afternoon (Thursday 28 November) to reports of a medical incident at Pelaw Metro Station in Pelaw. We dispatched an ambulance crew who transported one patient to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment."

Heavy traffic on A1 Western Bypass northbound

A lane is closed on the exit sliproad at Junction 77 A167 Ponteland Road (Kenton Bar roundabout), due to a vehicle having a tyre changed. Traffic is heavy.

'Medical Emergency' on board train at Pelaw

Current disruption south of Pelaw on Metro is due to a "medical emergency" on board a train at Pelaw.

A Nexus spokesperson said:

"A Nexus spokesperson said: “There has been a medical emergency on board a train at Pelaw at around 3.30pm today, Tuesday 28 November, after an elderly man had a fall on board the Metro carriage.


“The North East Ambulance Service are currently on site at Pelaw to provide treatment.


“This incident is having an impact on Metro services due to the train being held at Pelaw Metro station."

The are delays on the 37, 62, and X63 Stagecoach services.

  • Slow traffic due to earlier broken down vehicle on A19 Tyne Tunnel Southbound from A193 Tynemouth Road (Howdon Roundabout, Wallsend) to A185 Straker Street (Jarrow). All lanes have been re-opened.

  • Usual congestion on A1 Western Bypass Southbound from MetroCentre to A6127 / A167 (Bowes Incline Angel Of The North). Travel time is 25 minutes.

  • Usual slow traffic on A167 Newcastle Road Southbound, Durham, around A690 Neville's Cross Bank. Travel time is ten minutes.

  • Queuing traffic on A1058 Jesmond Road inbound before A167(M) (Central Motorway, Newcastle). Travel time is 15 minutes.

  • Usual slow traffic on The approaches at Benton Park Road double roundabouts. Travel time is ten minutes.

  • Slow traffic on A19 at A189 / A1171 / B1505 (Moor Farm Roundabout).

  • Slow traffic on A690 Leazes Road at A691 Framwelgate Peth (The Gates Roundabout), Durham.

  • Delays on A167(M) Central Motorway Southbound from B1318 Great North Road to A186 City Road (Swanhouse Roundabout). Travel time is ten minutes.

Engineers heading for Kingston Park

Engineers are heading for Kingston Park Metro Station to assess what is wrong with the train.

A spokesperson for Nexus said:

"We currently have a suspension of service in place between Airport and Regent Centre due to a train breaking down. Engineers from Stadler are heading to the train, which is at Kingston Park Metro station, to assess what is wrong and see how they can get it moved back to the depot ahead of the rush hour.


“We’re sorry for the inconvenience this is causing customers. We are in the process of arranging Metro ticket acceptance on local buses. Customers should keep an eye on our website and our X page (formely Twitter) @My_Metro.”

Ticket acceptance on Stagecoach services

Metro currently has ticket acceptance in place on all Stagecoach bus services between Regen Centre and Airport. ChronicleLive has contacted Nexus for more information.

Ambulance Service statement on Metro call out

Metros were delayed earlier after the North East Ambulance Service were called to a train at Chichester Metro Station.

A statement from NEAS read:

" We received a call at 9.27am this morning (Tuesday 28 November) to reports of a medical incident on a platform at the Chichester Metro Station in South Shields. We dispatched an ambulance crew who treated and discharged one patient on-scene."

One taken to hospital after collision on A1

Regarding the earlier collision on the A1(M) Southbound between Bowburn and Bradbury, NEAS has confirmed that one person was taken to hospital.

An NEAS spokesperson said:

"We received a call at 8.57am this morning (Tuesday 28 November) to reports of a road traffic incident on the A1 southbound junction 61, near Coxhoe in Durham. We dispatched an ambulance crew and a clinical team leader to the scene. One patient was treated and discharged on-scene, and another was taken to the University Hospital of North Durham for further treatment."

Metro delayed due to traveller having a suspected panic attack

Metros are currently delayed between South Shields and St James after an ambulance attended to a woman suffered a suspected panic attack.

A Nexus spokesperson said:

" There was a medical emergency on board a Metro train just before 10am on Tuesday morning, 28 November, when a woman suffered a suspected panic attack.


“The driver and some of the other customers assisted her before she was taken from the train to be treated by paramedics at Chichester Metro station.


“This caused some delays to services due to the fact that the train was held up while the incident was dealt with.”
