A city tradition is making a return this Halloween for film fans who enjoy a chilling and thrilling night's entertainment.

Tyneside Cinema will be hosting its Halloween All-Nighter, with back-to-back scary films to suit the season. And the independent Newcastle cinema says that this All-Nighter will be its best yet.

The big night will be October 28, just before Halloween itself, and it is offering horror lovers a pick of 17 films running from dusk until dawn. There will be four themed screens offering a choice of Book of the Dead; superior slasher sequels; what it describes as 'gonzo alien terror' or a mystery selection of curiosities which you're unlikely to see anywhere else.

This year it will be hosting a Halloween Film Quiz too, alongside music, scares and even a prize for the person who turns up dressed in the best costume. And there's a branded T-shirt on sale for those out to make it through the night.

The Classic screen, being named Book of the Dead, will be showing The Evil Dead in 35mm; Evil Dead ll; Army of Darkness then the 2013 version of Evil Dead in a double bill with Evil Dead Rise. The Roxy, being re-branded Space Invaders, will be screening The Thing; Lifeforce 35mm; Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Killer Klowns from Outer Space.

In the Gallery, or Mystery Grindhouse, the audience can watch Book of the Dead; followed by a wildcard film; then Space Invaders and Sequels Do It Better. And the Electra screen, which also will take the name of Sequels Do It Better, will be hosting four mystery films which have been described on the programme as, for instance, 'the Rosetta Stone of horror sequels' and 'unheralded classic'. One apparently is a very rare 35mm print and 'not to be missed'.

The cinema sums up its Halloween All-Nighter as including "macabre horror classics and good old-fashioned fun" and says this will be its "best-ever All-Nighter programme, with something for audiences both old and new", adding: "Whatever you do, don’t fall asleep."
